Brandon Mykel Van Den Eykel is the Garnet Choir Director. Mr. Van Den Eykel was born in Pierre, South Dakota. He is the oldest of three children. In 2000, his family moved to the Frazee, Minnesota area. He went on to graduate from Frazee High School in May of 2010.
After high school, Mr. Van Den Eykel received his Bachelors of Science in Music Education from Minnesota State University Moorhead. While there, he was very involved with the Concert Choir and served as the Concert Choir President for two years. He was also a leader in his voice class, worked two years as Choral Librarian, and helped out the department whenever he could. Outside of music, Mr. Van Den Eykel was also very involved on campus. He was crowned MSUM Dragon Homecoming King in 2012. Additionally, he worked for the Department of Housing and Residential life all four years he lived on campus. First he worked as an Office Assistant, then worked two years as a Resident Assistant, and was a Desk Manager his final year. On top of that, he was involved with the Social Justice and Diversity Committee which works to provide programming, training sessions, and other resources for Resident Assistants and the general student body.
Graduating in December of 2014, Mr. Van Den Eykel spent the spring of 2015 as a substitute teacher for Fargo Public Schools. During that short time, he was able to work in four different high schools, three middle schools, and over 12 elementary schools. Since the fall of 2015, Mr. Van Den Eykel has been the Elementary Music Teacher for Hawley Public Schools in Hawley, MN. He also directs the Hawley Youth Choir, co-directs the elementary musical, leads the after school study hall program, and teaches private music lessons.
Mr. Van Den Eykel is also highly involved with the Boy Scouts of America, is an Eagle Scout, and has held and served in many different positions throughout the years. Currently he is the Cubmaster of Cub Scout Pack 210 out of Jefferson Elementary School in Fargo, ND. He also serves on the Troop Committee for Troop 225 out of Fargo, ND. Additionally he has spent ten summers working at Camp Wilderness, a Boy Scout and Cub Scout camp near Park Rapids, MN.
In the free time that is left, Mr. Van Den Eykel enjoys spending time with friends and family, camping and being outdoors, attending live music and theater performances, reading/listening to audio books, and dining out.
